Dear colleagues,
The Valencia International Biennial of Architecture Research, VIBRArch, was created with the aim of being a regular meeting point for academics and professionals of architecture, open to all areas of knowledge that shape and enhance our discipline. Overcoming the difficulties caused by a global pandemic and inclement weather conditions in the region, the conference has established itself as an international forum for debate, reflection, and scientific exchange. Throughout its various editions, it has been able to adapt to the contemporary changes and challenges affecting architecture and the built environment.
Thanks to the evolution of the Congress and the quality of the proceedings published after each edition, the Council of the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) incorporated the event as its benchmark research conference, including it in its official agenda, since its meeting in Turin in August 2023. Following the recognition of VIBRArch and the success achieved previously, we are pleased to welcome you to the fifth edition of the conference. This new edition represents a further step in the evolution of the event and reaffirms the School of Architecture's commitment to rigorous research, academic quality and international outreach.
The theme chosen for this 5th edition, "Indoor and Outdoor", explicitly includes the role of interior architectural design within the comprehensive field of architecture. The aim is to accommodate all types of research that address the design of inhabited spaces from multiple perspectives—environmental, social, cultural, technical, and perceptual—taking into account both the user experience and the interaction between architecture, context, and well-being. This approach reflects the growing importance of interior spaces in everyday life, as well as their constant dialogue with the exterior, especially at a time when the ways we live, work and interact are undergoing profound transformations. The conference thus aims to become a forum for critical reflection on how the architectural design of all types of spaces can contribute to improving the quality of life, sustainability and resilience of our built environments.
It is my pleasure to invite you to participate in the 5th edition of VIBRArch, which will be held at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Valencia from October 28 to 30, 2026. We look forward to welcoming you personally in Valencia to share knowledge, experiences and ideas that continue to promote the role of architecture in society.
Ernesto Fenollosa Forner
Dean of the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Valencia
